Deepak Chahar, not retained by Chennai Super Kings, is eager to be part of the IPL 2025 auction. After successful rehab, he’s aiming to return to CSK or join Rajasthan Royals.
Deepak Chahar Gears Up for IPL 2025 Auction After CSK Exit
India pacer Deepak Chahar, released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is optimistic about the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
Chahar, who has been dealing with multiple injuries over the years, is eager to make a strong comeback and hopes to be reacquired by CSK or Rajasthan Royals.
After missing significant parts of IPL 2024 due to injury, Chahar took five wickets in eight games at an economy rate of 8.59 before stepping away for recovery.
This season, the five-time IPL champions retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni but did not keep Chahar in their roster.
Unretained but Hopeful for a CSK Comeback
Chahar, who has represented CSK since his IPL debut, understands the dynamics of the auction and remains hopeful about returning to his former team.

Acknowledging the strategic role he plays in the powerplay overs, Chahar believes his skills align with the needs of IPL teams, particularly with high scores becoming more common.
“I think they (CSK) will bid for me again. I would like to don the yellow jersey again and if not that, then I would want Rajasthan Royals to bid for me,” Chahar said.
Ready for New Beginnings with Rajasthan Royals
If CSK decides against bidding for him, Chahar is open to donning the Rajasthan Royals jersey.
“I was not retained by them in the last mega auction as well. But they went all out for me and bought me back. I don’t know what will happen this year, but I know my skill will be valued more now given the fact that around 90-100 runs are being scored in the Powerplay and that’s why the teams are scoring more than 200 more frequently. I have proved how valuable I can be in limiting runs in that phase of the game.” he shared.
Currently representing Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy, Chahar has taken 13 wickets in four matches, showcasing his form and fitness.
The pacer has put extensive effort into rehab, overcoming two major injuries, including a stress fracture and quadriceps tear. Now confident in his recovery, Chahar is optimistic about a fruitful IPL season in 2025.
