Delhi Capitals’ X Account Hacked by Cryptocurrency Scammers

In a shocking turn of events, the X (formerly Twitter) account of the Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals was hacked on the evening of September 10. The hackers posted a message promoting a cryptocurrency token called $HACKER, claiming it would generate profits by hacking other accounts.

Delhi Capitals’ Social Media Account Compromised

The post read: “Yes this is a hacked account! We’ve launched a token called $HACKER on Solana CA: 3oBm3m2NW9auqhYTe2S92U9v6vam4cU9DYk23bwp8Yf4. We will make profits, WE hack accounts on each account the token address will be posted and the token will pump. Search $HACKER to see our strength!”

Fortunately, the account was restored shortly after the incident, and all the fraudulent posts were deleted. This incident is not the first for an IPL team; previously, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also experienced a similar hacking incident, raising concerns about the security of social media accounts for sports franchises.

Delhi Capitals’ Disappointing IPL 2024 Season

The hacking incident comes on the heels of a challenging IPL 2024 season for the Delhi Capitals. The team finished in sixth place, securing only 14 points and failing to qualify for the playoffs. Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, who made his return to competitive cricket after a lengthy injury layoff, the Capitals managed to win seven out of their 14 matches. Pant emerged as the team’s top scorer, showcasing his resilience and talent despite the team’s overall struggles.

Despite being one of the three franchises to have participated in all 17 editions of the IPL, the Delhi Capitals have yet to clinch a title. Their best performance came in the 2020 season when they reached the finals for the first time, only to be defeated by the Mumbai Indians. The team’s inability to secure a championship continues to be a point of frustration for fans.

Following the disappointing season, significant changes are anticipated within the Delhi Capitals’ coaching staff. Ricky Ponting, who has been at the helm since 2018, has stepped down as head coach. His departure follows the team’s failure to reach the playoffs, and the franchise is now in search of a new leader. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is reportedly a strong candidate to succeed Ponting, although the management has yet to finalize any decisions.
