MS Dhoni talks about his special bond with “Chiku” Virat Kohli. Legendary Indian cricketer and former captain MS Dhoni has praised Virat Kohli, calling him one of the best in world cricket. Dhoni, who led Kohli during his international debut in 2008, commended the 35-year-old’s remarkable skills.
Kohli has since become one of the greatest batters ever. He has accumulated over 26,000 runs in international cricket, ranking fourth in the all-time list. This impressive record underscores his extraordinary talent and consistency throughout his career.
Here’s what MS Dhoni said about Kohli
At an event in Hyderabad, Dhoni spoke about his relationship with the right-handed batter, revealing that they always take the time to chat whenever they meet.
“We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun.” Said Dhoni.
“We used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun. It is not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for some time. We talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship.” He added.
Kohli is the second cricketer after Dhoni to win all three ICC white-ball trophies. He made his ODI and Test debuts under Dhoni’s captaincy in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He played several matches with Dhoni as captain, and from 2017 onward, Dhoni also played for a few years under Kohli’s leadership.
Virat Kohli plays in ODI series against Sri Lanka
After a long break from ODI cricket, Virat Kohli has made a comeback in the format. The 35 year old father of 2 recently announced his retirement from T20I cricket as India claimed the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy.
Kohli last played in an ODI match against Australia in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were exceptional throughout the tournament, with 0 defeats, India was silenced by Pat Cummins’ Australia.
Kohli will also be playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will primarily be hosted by Pakistan. However, it’s still unclear whether team India would be allowed to go to the neighboring nation due to political differences.
