As Team India landed in Guwahati this evening ahead of its warm-up match against England, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been making the news for replacing Axar Patel in the World Cup squad. The senior player was spotted at the airport along with other teammates. Ashwin has finally made it to the squad by replacing Axar Patel who sustained a left quadriceps strain in the Super 4 encounter against Bangladesh during the Asia Cup. Axar failed to recover in due time which led Ashwin to take his chance on the list.Â
While 28th of September remained the deadline for all the World Cup playing teams to make or add any provisional changes in their squads, the Indian Cricket team has finally announced its squad for the big tournament which saw R. Ashwin replacing Axar Patel who was ruled out for being unfit.
Confirming to Dinesh Karthik’s predictions
It is worth noticing that senior wicket-keeper and a long time friend of Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik opined through a tweet on his official ‘X’ handle that he felt Ashwin will be making to the squad for sure. The senior cricketer expressed he had an intuition before and wrote “R ASHWIN will be there in TEAM INDIA world Cup squad. Don’t ask me how, it’s just a feeling. Let’s see how well this tweet ages.”
Dinesh last played for India in the T20 World Cup held in Australia. He mentioned in his tweet that it was just a hunch and it appears that his fellow friend stands all the chances to make it to the squad.
Looking in at Ashwin’s performance in ODI series
Seemingly, Ashwin was named in the squad for the Ind vs Aus ODI series which concluded recently. He played the first two matches by scoring convincing bowling figures of 1/47 in the first match while 3/41 in the second one. Initially, Ashwin has not been the selectors pick for the World Cup squad but with India needing an experienced senior bowler, he managed to earn a call-up in the team. Ashwin will be playing his third 50-over World Cup after 2011 and 2015 respectively.
