Dinesh Karthik to start his second innings immediately after his retirement

The ICC has announced an elite list of commentators for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on June 2 in the USA and the West Indies. This star-studded panel includes some of the biggest names in cricket. Among them is Dinesh Karthik, who recently concluded his IPL journey with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Expressing his excitement, Karthik said, “This tournament will be different in many ways, which makes it even more exciting. With 20 teams, 55 matches, and some new venues, it’s a thrilling combination, and I can’t wait to dive in. Being part of such a high-class commentary team is a fantastic feeling, and commentating on players I have recently played with makes it even more interesting.”

Joining Karthik are Indian stalwarts like Ravi Shastri, Harsha Bhogle, and Sunil Gavaskar, who will provide their voices to the thrilling action of the World Cup. Nasser Hussain, Ian Bishop, and Mel Jones will also be leading the commentary team alongside Shastri and Bhogle.

The commentary panel features a diverse group of former cricketers and World Cup winners. This includes Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cup champions such as Ebony Rainford-Brent, Samuel Badree, Carlos Brathwaite, Steve Smith, Aaron Finch, and Lisa Sthalekar. Additionally, former 50-over World Cup winners like Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Ramiz Raja, Eoin Morgan, Tom Moody, and Wasim Akram will offer their expert analysis during the tournament.

American commentator James O’Brien will make his World Cup debut to cater to the American audience. Other notable commentators include Dale Steyn, Graeme Smith, Michael Atherton, Waqar Younis, Simon Doull, Shaun Pollock, and Katey Martin. Renowned broadcasters Mpumelelo Mbangwa, Natalie Germanos, Danny Morrison, Alison Mitchell, Alan Wilkins, Brian Murgatroyd, Mike Haysman, Ian Ward, Athar Ali Khan, Russel Arnold, Niall O’Brien, Kass Naidoo, and former West Indies captain Daren Ganga will also be part of the extensive team.

Karthik’s final appearance in the IPL came in the Eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals, which RCB lost by four wickets.

Over 257 IPL games, Karthik accumulated 4,842 runs, including 22 half-centuries, playing for six franchises over 17 years. He debuted in the league with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008 and later played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, and Kolkata Knight Riders before joining RCB.

In IPL 2024, Karthik scored 326 runs in 15 matches at an average of 36.22 and a strike rate of 187.36.
