Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage takes 5 Indian Wickets in an ODI match. The third and final ODI match in India’s tour of Sri Lanka was a massive disappointment for fans of the men in blue. Sri Lanka defeated India by a whopping 110 runs, taking all their wickets in a span of less than 27 overs.

The match was held at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The pitch was favorable for spin bowling, and Wellalage used it to his best. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to Bat first. They scored 248/7 in 50 overs. On the other hand, India got restricted to merely 138/10 in 26.1 overs.

Sri Lanka set a challenging target of 248/7, driven by a steady 96 from opener Avishka Fernando and a strong 59 from Kusal Mendis. Admittedly Fernando’s innings established a solid base for Sri Lanka, featuring key partnerships with Pathum Nissanka (45) and Mendis.

Dunith Wellalage caused significant trouble for India with his left-arm orthodox spin, taking four of the first six wickets to fall. After Shubman Gill was dismissed by Asitha Fernando, Wellalage delivered an impressive performance.

He initially defeated Rohit Sharma with an away-spinning delivery and then dismissed Virat Kohli with an arm-ball. Later e followed up by taking two more wickets in his next over, removing Axar Patel and trapping Shreyas Iyer lbw.

Meanwhile India ended the series with 27 wickets lost to spin, the highest ever in a bilateral ODI series with a maximum of three matches.
