The hosts England had the worst possible start to the Ashes 2023. The third Test of the highly anticipated series is quickly approaching, and the Ben Stokes-led team will be searching desperately for solutions after losing the first two Test matches against Australia.
Ashes 2023’s third Test will begin on July 6 at Headingley in Leeds. England stood up to reveal their starting lineup for the third game prior to the match. Notable inclusions in the starting lineup were Mark Wood and Chris Woakes, who replaced Josh Tongue and James Anderson, respectively.
Moeen Ali, a seasoned all-rounder, making a comeback is another lineup adjustment. Notably, Ali participated in the first Ashes 2023 Test but was sidelined for the second match because of an injury. Ali would attempt to bring even more flair to the lower order as hitter Ollie Pope injured his shoulder, which may have been a major factor in England’s decision not to use another batter.
As Pope’s replacement as the No. 3 batter, Harry Brook is eager to start having an effect right away as England tries to get back into the series.
Additionally, England captain Ben Stokes stepped up to discuss how much of a loss Ollie Pope’s absence will be for the hosts because Pope is unable to participate due to a dislocated shoulder.
“We’re obviously devastated for Popey, he’s been a huge part of what we’ve managed to achieve over the last 18 months, and obviously, being vice captain, it’s a real shame not only for us, but also for him in such a big series,” Stokes was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
