English Player Sophia Dunkley Opts Out of WPL to Gear Up for International Challenges

After the World Cup fever, Indian fans are getting ready for some nail-biting T20 actions. The women’s Premier League is gearing up well. After a successful inaugural season in 2023, WPL is all set for the second season. The release and retention process are done. On December 9, the auction will take place in Mumbai for WPL. before that, Sophia Dukley decided to skip the WPL to prepare for international matches.

The WPL is coming near. Before that, Gujarat Giants player Sophia Dukley has been opted out of this edition of WPL. She wants to concentrate on his international career. Dukley is a key player of the Gujarat Giants. In the previous edition, she performed exceptionally well. Her absence in this season will be a setback for the franchise. 

On this matter, she said, “To work on my game and to be in the best position to play for England is my priority really. It wasn’t an easy decision at all. It took a lot of time and a lot of discussion. Going back into auction, there is no guarantee that you’ll get picked up anyway, but in the case that I did, it was just weighing up the different decisions I had to make. The way the years panned out, it makes it tricky as it’s so busy, and sometimes you’ve got to make those decisions.”

In an interaction, she said, “I wanted to contribute to the team effort, and it felt like it wasn’t quite there for me. The Ashes was an amazing series, pretty intense, and every game came down to the wire but I was definitely disappointed with how I performed.”

She added, “Missing the Sri Lanka series was a discussion that I had with the coaching staff and especially with the head coach and it was about resting easily.” She is getting ready for the upcoming challenges. She said, “You get DMs and comments all the time of opinion of people, and it’s just how the game is, I guess.”
