Eoin Morgan will miss the remainder of the India-England ODI series in Pune. The injury he suffered from last ODI forced him to leave the competition. Sam Billings will be missed in the next ODI.
Injury Updates
England captain Eoin Morgan sustained sustaining a split webbing between his thumb and index finger during the first ODI against India on Tuesday. It eventually required four stitches. The captain went through a fielding drill during training at the MCA Stadium on Thursday before declaring about his unfitness. He said, “I had the hand re-dressed before the start of training today but it quickly became apparent that I found myself protecting the injury and getting into the wrong positions to catch the ball.”

Morgan added, “There’s nowhere to hide on the field in international cricket these days, especially in limited-over formats so it didn’t require any great thought to make myself unavailable. It was a freak injury and it’s extremely frustrating but there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s now just a case of letting the cut heal.”

On the other hand, Sam Billings is another name from the visiting team to be missed in the second game of the series scheduled to be played on Friday. Billings sustained a shoulder injury during first on the same day as Morgan. Whether he would be able to play the final match or not, this will be decided later as per his fitness update.

Jos Buttler will be leading the side in Morgan’s absence. Morgan hoped, I have every confidence in Jos and the rest of the squad coping without me.” Dawid Malan is the new name in the squad and will be available for the selection. Liam Livingstone is set to make his debut.

Livingstone said, “I’ve been waiting for this chance for a while now so really excited. India have played some really good cricket, the back end of the T20 series and the one-dayer the other day so it’s a great chance to test myself against one of the best teams in the world.”
