Essex has brought in South African allrounder Eathan Bosch to bolster their squad for the second half of the Vitality T20 Blast following the injury of Australian allrounder Daniel Sams. Sams, who was instrumental for Essex last season and named the Blast’s MVP in 2023, suffered a knee injury during a match against Sussex and will be returning home for surgery.
Sams shared his disappointment, saying, “My wife and I love coming back to Essex, and we’ve made some great friends here. Unfortunately, this injury means I need to head home and focus on recovery.”
The knee injury will likely keep Sams out for four to six months, potentially impacting his participation in the 2024-25 Big Bash League. Despite the setback, Sams had managed to take seven wickets in six matches this season, contributing significantly to Essex’s campaign.
Bosch, 26, was initially brought in for a series of Championship games and has already made an impact, taking eight wickets in two matches. With experience in the SA20 league playing for Pretoria Capitals, Bosch is expected to strengthen Essex’s bowling attack as they aim to secure a place in the knockout stages.
Essex is currently fourth in the South Group with five wins from eight games and will next face defending champions Somerset at Chelmsford on Friday night.
