For the 11th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan entered the tournament with a match against hosts USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas on June 6.
Both Pakistan and USA men’s teams are placed in Group A for the tournament, alongside India, Canada and Ireland. India has played 1 match, and won 2 points. USA has now won 2 matches. Meanwhile, Canada, Pakistan and Ireland have lost their first matches.
In a quick recap of the match, USA won the toss and opted to bowl first. This resulted in the Pakistan team scoring 159 runs in the first innings of the match. USA had to chase a score of 160 runs, but they could only score 159, resulting in a tie. Team USA won the match after winning the super over
Kamran Akmal Slams Pakistan Team
Team Pakistan has disappointed their fans as well as cricket enthusiasts with their underwhelming performance in the match against the relatively newer team USA.
After the loss, ex Cricketer Kamran Akmal slammed the Pakistan team and labeled the loss as the “biggest insult” for the team.
“The biggest insult for Pakistan cricket is losing the game in the Super Over. There can’t be a bigger insult than this. The USA played exceptionally well. They didn’t feel like a low-ranked side. It felt like they were ranked above Pakistan. That is the level of maturity they showed,” Akmal said on his YouTube channel.
“They deserved to win because they played better cricket than us. The face of our cricket has been revealed. It shows how we are taking our cricket forward,” he added.
Why Kamran Akmal called the performance “shameful”
Not just insulting, the Pakistani ex Cricketer also called his ex-team’s performance and their defeat shameful.
Kamran defended his criticism towards the team by saying that it would have been fine if Pakistan lost match against big teams like England. However, losing against USA is a new low.
“It is a shameful performance from the Pakistan cricket team. If they lose against big teams like England, it is fine. If they lose after giving a good fight to the opposition, it is fine. But losing against a team who haven’t played so many matches,” Akmal said.
“What is shameful about the defeat is firstly drawing the game and then losing in the Super Over. This day will never be forgotten,” he added.
People have now also raised their eyebrows at the team selection for Pakistan. With bringing back retired players like Azam Khan, who got dismissed very early on after coming to the field.
Pakistan will now face off against long time rivals India in a match on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium
