In a significant development for Bangladesh cricket, former Bangladesh cricketer Nafees Iqbal has been reappointed as the team managerfor the upcoming series against New Zealand. This announcement comes as Bangladesh prepares to face New Zealand in a two-match Test series starting on November 28.
Nafees Iqbal, the elder brother of former ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal, confirmed his return to the role of team manager. Notably, Nafees previously held the position until September 2023 but was reportedly excluded from the dressing room during the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023 based on the recommendation of skipper Shakib Al Hasan.
Having also served as the team manager for Bangladesh A and involved as a coach for Khelaghar in the Dhaka Premier League, Nafees brings experience and familiarity to the team management role.
It’s noteworthy that Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan will not be available to play against New Zealand, with Najmul Hossain Shanto set to lead the team. The Test series will commence on November 28 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Bangladesh, coming off a disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, aims to regroup and showcase an improved performance against New Zealand. In the World Cup, Bangladesh faced challenges, winning only two out of nine games and finishing in the eighth position in the standings. The upcoming Test series provides an opportunity for Bangladesh to bounce back and regain form.
As Nafees Iqbal returns to the managerial role, Bangladesh looks forward to a fresh start under his guidance in the Test series against New Zealand.
