Former National Investigation Agency Chief Sharad Kumar Becomes Head of BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has welcomed a new member. BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Committee got a new chief. After leading NIA for four years, retired IPS officer Sharad Kumar will head the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit. His appointment brings significant experience to this important position.

Retired IPS officer Sharad Kumar has taken on a significant new role in Indian cricket. He previously led the NIA, India’s anti-terror organization, for four years. On October 1, he was appointed as the chief of the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit. This appointment comes with a three-year term.

Kumar, who hails from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, brings a wealth of experience to the position. His selection was confirmed during the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting held on September 29. In his new position, Kumar will tackle corruption concerns. He will focus on issues like match-fixing and betting scandals. This reinforces the BCCI’s commitment to upholding the game’s integrity.

Glorious Career of Sharad Kumar:

Sharad Kumar will succeed KK Mishra, another former IPS officer from Haryana. Kumar, a 1979 batch IPS officer, has a remarkable career. He served as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency from 2013 to 2017.

Kumar’s leadership in the NIA was notable for enhancing its operational capabilities. He oversaw many significant investigations, including high-profile terror attacks in India. One of these was the Pathankot airbase attack carried out by the banned group Jaish-e-Mohammed. His strategic approach significantly improved the agency’s effectiveness.

After his time with the NIA, Kumar took on the role of Vigilance Commissioner at the Central Vigilance Commission from June 2018 to April 2020. He briefly served as the interim Central Vigilance Commissioner as well. Throughout his tenure, Kumar focused on disrupting terror financing networks, which was crucial in combating terrorism in the country. His extensive experience and expertise will be valuable as he transitions to the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
