Delhi: In India vs Sri Lanka Super 4 match of the Asia Cup that was held yesterday, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir took an eye on the Indian batsmen’s performance and served a careful evaluation of the same.
During the rain break after the 47th over of India’s innings, Gambhir talked and recalled a similar problem faced by Indian batters while facing Australia earlier this year. Elaborating more on the match, which was held in Chennai, he stated that this is eventually turning into a pattern because that time, India lost 6 wickets to spinners Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar. They fell short of chasing a target of 270 runs just by a mere margin of 21 runs, he added.
Wellalage’s Fabulous Spins
Talking about yesterday’s clash between Ind vs SL, he took into effect that Virat Kohli‘s and KL Rahul‘s wicket were easy dismissals and that rest of them were due to brilliance in spin deliveries.
Dunith Wellalage left both Indian and Srilankan fans awestruck after he took down the star struck queue of Indian batsmen by slamming 5 wickets. Gautam Gambhir put light on the fact that this was the first time when India lost all the 10 wickets to spin bowling.
Frontfoot dismissals
He took a critical examination on the fast dismissals of KL Rahul, Shubhman Gill and Hardik Pandya. He described their knockouts by explaining that as a batsman, we often try to play from the angle but if the ball spins in between, it becomes difficult to play from the same angle. Concluding his statement, he emphasised on the need of playing it from the backfoot rather than frontfoot which was indefinitely played in the same manner by them. He further added, this way of playing spin bowlings can pose a grave challenge to Indian batsmen.Â
