Known for his explosive batting and versatile off-spin, Maxwell’s return to Punjab Kings marks a homecoming for the cricketer, who previously represented the franchise from 2014 to 2021.
The bidding war for Maxwell began with a late opening bid from Sunrisers Hyderabad at INR 2 crore.Â
Punjab Kings joined the fray, battling until ₹2.60 crore before Chennai Super Kings entered at INR 2.80 crore.Â
However, Punjab Kings ultimately secured the 36-year-old, surprising fans with his relatively low price compared to previous seasons when he fetched over INR 10 crore.
Maxwell’s IPL Career and 2024 Performance
Maxwell’s IPL career has been a rollercoaster, characterised by his match-winning abilities and aggressive style.
Despite a lacklustre 2024 season with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he scored only 52 runs in 10 games, his overall IPL statistics remain impressive.Â
Maxwell has amassed over 2,700 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 156 and contributed with 18 wickets during his four seasons with RCB.

Nicknamed “The Big Show,” Maxwell is renowned for his unorthodox strokes, such as reverse sweeps and switch hits, which disrupt bowling attacks.

Punjab Kings aim to strengthen their middle order with Maxwell’s return, leveraging his dual role as a finisher and part-time spinner.
