After team India wreaked havoc on Sri Lanka the previous day by bagging its 8th Asia Cup title, Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah announced $50,000 for Sri Lanka Cricket ground staff. The SLC groundsmen left no stone unturned in their efforts of making sure to put the ground covers on during rain disruptions.
The groundsmen have been recognized for their tireless efforts that led the way for the Asia Cup to be a successful tournament. SLC and its team definitely showed that it can pull off any mega event even during the monsoon season.
Godfrey’s act of kindness
Sri Lanka Cricket’s head groundsman Godfrey Dabare has decided to cut on his share of reward and distribute the same among other ground staff members.
Godfrey’s decision of distributing the amount to other staff members is being recognized as a great gesture by everyone.
Multiple matches of the Asia Cup were interrupted due to continuous rain, but the ground staff ensured that only one match was put off the ground. Even the match that was between India and Pakistan was spilled over to the reserve day, in which India emerged victorious.
Jay Shah’s appreciation of the staff
Despite challenging monsoon conditions, SLC ground staff members dedication to pull off the whole of Asia Cup tirelessly and effectively had ACC Chairman Jay Shah applauding the members.
Jay quoted on his X handle, “Their unwavering commitment and hard work made the Asia Cup 2023 an unforgettable spectacle. From pitch perfection to lush outfields, they ensured the stage was set for thrilling cricket action. This recognition highlights the critical role these individuals play in cricket’s success. Let’s celebrate and honor their yeoman services!”
The ground staff received an additional reward of $3,000 from Mohammed Siraj who unleashed his magic spell in yesterday’s winning game for India. During the post match presentation, Siraj announced that he would distribute his Man of the Match’s prize money to SLC groundsmen for their untiring endeavours.
