MS Dhoni has officially confirmed his participation in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This announcement has brought immense relief and joy to fans and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management alike. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan expressed satisfaction with Dhoni’s decision, stating, “When he is ready, what else (do) we want? We are happy.”

As he prepares for the upcoming season, Dhoni emphasises the importance of maintaining fitness. “I have to keep myself fit for nine months so that I can play two and a half months of IPL,” he explained. CSK officials had been eagerly awaiting confirmation from Dhoni regarding his participation. They expected a decision by October 28, and now that clarity has emerged, they can move forward with their retention plans.
CSK’s Retention Strategy
With Dhoni’s intentions now clear, CSK will soon finalize its player retention strategy. Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni will discuss retention decisions with franchise owner N Srinivasan in the coming days. Notably, Dhoni will be categorized as an uncapped player, which will minimally impact his auction price by INR 4 crore.
The franchise is expected to prioritize retaining key players. Ravindra Jadeja is anticipated to be the No. 1 retention choice, followed closely by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Matheesha Pathirana is also likely to secure a retention spot after recent discussions with his manager.
Whom will CSK Retain?
Among other potential retainers are Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, and uncapped player Sameer Rizvi. It is expected that two of these players will remain with CSK for the upcoming season. The final decisions will be made after Dhoni’s conversation with Srinivasan.
