Last time World Cup champions England faced Sri Lanka yesterday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The Sri Lankan team emerged victorious against England in what came as an easily won match for them. After having opted to bat first, England got bowled out for 156, with the Sri Lankan team able to successfully chase the target in just 26 overs with 2 balls to spare.
Ahead of their fourth loss in the ongoing World Cup, the English men have raised some eyebrows for such a gloomy performance. The team only emerged victorious in one match since the commencement of the World Cup, which was against Bangladesh. Recently, former Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh made disappointing remarks for the team and its captain following their 8-wicket defeat against Bangladesh.
Questioning the team’s performance
Harbhajan Singh asserted that the England team loved to chase runs in white-ball cricket, but now it seems they are struggling even with scoring singles. He went on to target stand-in captain Jos Buttler for having an I’ll score in the ongoing tournament. In a YouTube video, the former cricketer remarked, “Jos Buttler has never looked so clueless. Ben Stokes was asked to come out of retirement ahead of the World Cup but got injured. He has failed to make a significant impact in the matches he played.”
Dfficult to beat India
With England vs. India ahead on October 29 in Lucknow, Harbhajan also claimed that the defending champions won’t be able to break India’s winning streak, which stands as the only team that remains unbeaten in the ongoing World Cup. He affirmed, “England’s next match is against India. I don’t think they are capable of beating India, and they will have to deal with yet another loss. I feel it might be a spin-friendly surface, and we could see India play three spinners.”
