Pandya emerged as India’s hero by taking the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen on the first ball of the 17th over, initiating India’s comeback. In the final over, he dismissed David Miller, securing a seven-run victory for India over South Africa and clinching their second T20 World Cup title.
Hardik becomes the no.1 T20 All Rounder
Indian all rounder Hardik Pandya reached another milestone in his career by becoming the world’s No. 1 T20I all-rounder following India’s T20 World Cup victory. Pandya, who ended the tournament with 144 runs and 11 wickets, became the first Indian all-rounder to achieve this ranking.
This accomplishment came just days after his pivotal performance in the final against South Africa on Saturday, where he finished with figures of 3/20.
Hardik, who dismissed both David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen, climbed two places in the rankings, overtaking Wanindu Hasaranga for the top spot.
This achievement caps off a remarkable campaign for Hardik, especially after his previous World Cup run in 2023 was prematurely ended by injury.
Jasprit Bumrah rises 12 ranks in the lineup
Among bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, who earned the Player of the Tournament award with his 15 wickets, climbed 12 places to reach 11th in the rankings, his best position since late 2020. It’s a well-deserved honour for Bumrah, who has been nearly unplayable throughout the entire T20 World Cup, maintaining his exceptional performance until the final.
Bumrah started strong with an impressive 3/14 performance against Pakistan and, except for one game without taking any wickets against the USA, consistently troubled the batters with his sharp line, length, and pace. In the end, he dismissed Reeza Hendricks and destroyed Marco Jansen’s stumps to change the game in India’s favor.
The Champions will soon return to India after being stuck in a hurricane-lidden Barbados for several days. Team India will land in Delhi at 6:00 AM IST.
