A new era is all set to start in the Indian cricket. After Rahul Dravid completed his tenure as India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir took the helm. With the upcoming Sri Lanka series, he will start his tenure. On July 18, Team India announced their squad for the upcoming tour. Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana received his first ODI call-up and praised Gautam Gambhir afterward.
Rana Thanked His Father and Gambhir for the Success:
After the Zimbabwe tour ended, Team India shifted their focus to the Sri Lanka series. Starting from July 27, the team will play an ODI series and a T20 series. Before that, on July 18, KKR pacer Harshit Rana got his maiden ODI call-up for India. Harshit Rana’s rise from Delhi streets to his first ODI call-up showcases his hard work and dedication.
Harshit Rana attributed his new outlook on the game to Gautam Gambhir’s influence in the KKR dressing room and shared that a message from Gambhir significantly shaped his mindset. He also credited his father and his childhood coach.
Rana said, “If I have to name three people whom I am indebted to in this beautiful journey of mine, then it is my father, for his efforts, my personal coach Amit Bhandari sir (former India and Delhi pacer) and above everyone else, Gauti bhaiyya (Gautam Gambhir),”
Crediting Gambhir:
Harshit Rana received his first T20I call-up for the initial matches against Zimbabwe but didn’t get a chance to play. His breakthrough came during the latest IPL season, where he took 19 wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders, drawing the selectors’ attention.
Rana has excelled in white-ball cricket, with 22 wickets in 14 Vijay Hazare Trophy games and 28 wickets in 25 T20 matches, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. He is an improvement. It is also attributed to working with Gautam Gambhir during the last IPL season. This collaboration has contributed significantly to his growth as a bowler.
He said, “If my outlook towards the game has changed, a lot of it has got to do with Gauti bhaiyya’s presence in the KKR dressing room and how he changed my mindset. At the elite level, you require skills but more than skills you require the heart to handle the pressure. Gauti bhaiyya would always tell me ‘Mere ko tere pe trust hai. Tu match jeetake aayega’. (I trust you, you can win the match),”
