West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring a respectable 173/5 in 20 overs. In the second innings, Uganda batsmen were left gasping with the West Indies bowlers, especially the ultra modernist Akeal Hosein.

Akeal Hosein made spin bowling look easy. Big turn first ball, a plumb lbw with his second, four more dismissals – all bowled or lbw – only two boundaries given, and his team on pace for a resounding victory by the time he finished his overs.

Akeal Hosein’s spectacular performance in the match

In a continuous four-over spell, Hosein showed impressive stats, capturing 5 wickets, while conceding only 11 runs. The West Indies bowler gave away only 2 boundaries, and took all these wickets as either LBWs or Clean Bowled.

Hosein became the player of the match as he played a great role in restricting the Uganda batsmen to a score of merely 39 runs, with all batsmen out in 12 overs.

Here’s what Akeal had to say

Speaking about his performance, Akeal explained that despite seeming easy, it takes a great amount of practice to become a spin bowler, especially in the T20 format.

“I’ve been doing lots of work here,” Hosein said. “We had a camp before we came into the World Cup, but I’ve been doing lots of work with Sunil Narine as well. He’s a very close friend of mine.” He said

“So, it’s just about constant work. And especially when you start getting success your way, we know the game has evolved so much that guys are going to be reading about you. Guys are going to be doing their homework. So, you always have to try and stay one step ahead.” Akeal added.
