“He is Bigger Than the Game…”: Australian Bowler Ashton Agar on Virat Kohli

The stage has been established for the biggest tournament in cricket following the 23rd edition of the Cricket World Cup. The World Cup has witnessed some of the most iconic and historic moments in its history, be it among the players of the same team or the different ones. Each player within a team has always respected and admired the other players they are playing against. This has given rise to unconditional friendships and stimulated special bonds between some international players.

Recently, one more such incident came into being when Australia’s left-arm spinner Ashton Agar expressed his views on former Indian skipper and batting typhoon Virat Kohli. During his interaction, the 29-year-old bowler went on to say that “it feels like Virat Kohli is bigger than the game, and in India he is.” He meant that Virat’s game is certainly bigger than the game he plays and even the country he lives in.

King Kohli

Also nicknamed “The King,” Virat Kohli captained the Indian team from 2014 to 2022, contributing largely to the Indian cricket team’s success. The 35-year-old batter has registered several records and is considered to be the one cricketer who can beat legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Virat is just a mere 30 centuries away from Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 tons in his cricket career.

Ashton Agar’s replacement

It was revealed yesterday that Ashton Agar has been replaced by batter Marnus Labuschagne. Ashton Agar sustained a calf injury, after which he returned home for the birth of his first child. Ashton played only one match of the ODI series against South Africa earlier this month. With Labuschagne on his side, the chief selector of the Australian cricket team said that “there has been one change to the original preliminary squad of 15 announced a month ago, with Marnus replacing Ashton.” He further added that this was a tough call to make as they could not go with both Travis and Ashton into the tournament with the injuries they have.
