The Pakistan men’s cricket team is looking forward to their face off against the Ireland team in match 36 of 55 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Central Broward Regional Park, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Both the teams are in the Group A of the ICC tournament, alongside India, USA and Canada. India is currently leading the points table, followed by USA.
Recently, Pakistan secured their first victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 in a match against Canada. The team has revived their chances to be in the super-8 alongside India from Group A. This is only possible if USA loses their next fixture against Ireland and Pakistan defeats Ireland.
Azam Khan under fire for bad physique
The Pakistan Team was the source of several jokes and memes ahead of the commencement of the T20 World Cup 2024 because of their decision to bring back an already retired Azam Khan into the squad.
Azam Khan had retired from all forms of cricket 2 years ago. However, the Pakistani Cricketer made a shocking comeback as he announced his availability for the T20 World Cup 2024.
The player was in the playing XI for Pakistan in their first match against USA, that they lost in a shameful manner. Khan has been “rested” in the other two matches ever since.
Azam Khan was trolled relentlessly by ex-cricketers, social media users and even Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam who called him a bull.
Azam Khan seems to have gained a lot of weight that has hampered his ability to play cricket and be athletic in the field. This is a big liability for the Pakistan team.
Mohammad Hafeez joins in on Azam’s bashing
Speaking to a local news channel, former Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez shed some more light on Azam’s fitness. “The whole Pakistan team can cover two kilometres in 10 minutes while Azam Khan will take 20 minutes to cover the distance. Sadly, Azam Khan is not serious in playing the international cricket,” he said.
“Being lean or oversize is never an issue for me, but you need to work according to the needs of the game. You need to bring your fitness to a required level. We gave him a fitness plan, but he [Azam] could not improve. You are in the team because of your talent, but you need to respond in case of fitness. You are the only one in the team on whom we have compromised on the grounds of fitness,” Hafeez further revealed.
Pakistan are at the third spot in the Group A points table, with two points in three matches, behind second-placed USA who have secured 4 points. India is at the first spot, with 3 wins in 3 matches and 6 points to their name.
