Heinrich Klaasen admits he hesitates to try Suryakumar Yadav’s “Supla Shot,” revealing his T20 inspirations, memorable innings, and favourite Indian elements.
South African cricketer Heinrich Klaasen has candidly admitted to his hesitation in trying India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav’s inventive “Supla Shot” –
A daring stroke that often sees the ball gliding over fine leg. Known for his explosive batting style, Klaasen recently shared insights into his T20 career, favourite shots, and his admiration for iconic cricketers.
In a recent interview on JioCinema’s Q20s show, Klaasen was asked to describe his own batting style, to which he confidently replied, “Explosive.”
The South African, recognized for his hard-hitting approach, also revealed that his favourite shot is the “pick-up pull shot.”
However, when it comes to trying Suryakumar’s “Supla Shot,” Klaasen explained, “I don’t like getting into line too much,” laughing as he acknowledged the shot’s unique challenge.
Admiration for Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah
Klaasen holds high respect for Indian cricket, calling Suryakumar Yadav the “GOAT” of T20 cricket and naming Jasprit Bumrah as the toughest bowler to face.
He admires the techniques of both Suryakumar and AB de Villiers, highlighting their skill in directing balls towards fine leg from difficult angles. “It’s phenomenal,” he remarked, expressing a desire to emulate their craft.

Memorable Performances and Favorite Indian Elements
Reflecting on his T20 career, Klaasen recalled two standout innings against India, choosing his 81-run knock in 2022 over a 69 in 2018 due to the challenging conditions.
Beyond cricket, he shared his fondness for butter chicken as his favourite Indian dish and described Yuzvendra Chahal as the funniest non-South African player he’s interacted with.
Klaasen, who draws inspiration from Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton, believes that his drive for excellence extends beyond cricket.
He also suggested that West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran has the potential to score a double century in T20s and said he would trust Hashim Amla to bat for his life in a clutch situation.
