Hemang Badani to Step In as the New Head Coach for the Delhi Capitals for the Upcoming IPL Season

Before that, a lot of changes are happening in the in the Delhi Capitals camp. They are making a lot of changes in their coaching panel. After parting away with Ricky Pointing, the franchise is looking for a new head coach. As per the reports, Hemang Badani is set to take over the role of the head coach of the Delhi Capitals

Hemang Badani is Set to be the Head Coach:

Just after the IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals made a noticeable change. Ricky Ponting who served as the head coach of the franchise for seven years, parted ways with Delhi Capitals. The DC ownership decided to revamp the coaching staff and restructure the franchise’s operations. This strategic change aims to strengthen a team that has yet to win the IPL title. But before the IPL 2025 stars, the franchise is looking forward to appointing a new head coach. 

As per reports, former Indian player Hemang Badani is set to take over as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals. That is a crucial appointment for the team’s future. Additional assistant coaches and a mentor are expected to join, enhancing support for the squad.

In the restructuring, DC’s co-owners, GMR Group, and JSW Sports, will alternate operational leadership every two years for their IPL and WPL teams. GMR Group will manage the men’s team, while JSW Sports will oversee the women’s team for 2025 and 2026.

In a recent statement, the franchise said, “Key decisions like auctions, captaincy, player release and retentions of both teams will be made by the Delhi Capitals’ board, and will be decided mutually by senior leadership of both groups.”

Hemang Badani’s Career

After the name came out, the probable recruitment sparked excitement. The former Indian cricketer has a glorious career. Hemang Badani played four Tests and 40 ODIs. he showcased coaching excellence in the domestic T20 scene. The former Tamil Nadu captain, Badani’s early coaching success began with Chepauk Super Gillies in the TNPL. He guided the team to three titles.

In 2022, he was selected as the fielding coach and scouting role with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Badani has also coached internationally. He was an assistant coach for Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Under his guidance, the team secured the title in the 2023 SA20 season. Along with it, he also served as a consultant for Jaffna Kings, guiding them to a recent Lanka Premier League title.

Most recently, Badani led Dubai Capitals, owned by GMR Group, to a runner-up finish in the ILT20 earlier this year. His expertise also extended to the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket, another team affiliated with GMR, where he worked as a coaching consultant. With that glorious coaching career, Badani is all set to contribute to the franchise. Delhi Capitals, who never won any IPL trophies is aiming for their maiden title under the new head coach’s guidance.
