Here’s the Reason why Ishant Sharma is not playing Today’s IPL 2024 Match 35 Against Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Delhi Capitals (DC) were dealt a significant blow just before their crucial IPL 2024 encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Ishant Sharma, the team’s leading pacer this season, was ruled out of the match due to a back spasm that occurred minutes before the start of play. Find out why Ishant Sharma is missing from today’s IPL 2024 clash against SRH.

Ishant’s Absence: A Big Loss for DC’s Pace Attack

“Instead of Ishant, who had a back spasm just 5 minutes back, Nortje comes in.”, Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant confirmed at the time of the toss.

Ishant Sharma’s presence in the Delhi Capitals bowling line-up has been instrumental in their campaign so far.  The experienced fast bowler has picked up six wickets in his six appearances this season, boasting an impressive economy rate of 9.76.  His absence creates a significant void in DC’s bowling attack.

Nortje Gets a Chance to Redeem Himself

Anrich Nortje, the South African speedster, has been brought in as a replacement for Ishant Sharma.  While Nortje possesses raw pace, his IPL 2024 campaign hasn’t been as successful as his teammate’s.  In his four appearances so far, he has managed to pick up six wickets but has struggled with his control, leaking runs at an economy rate of 13.44.  The Delhi Capitals will be hoping for a significant turnaround from Nortje as he steps in for the injured Ishant Sharma.

The Delhi Capitals have also made another late change to their playing XI.  Fast-bowling all-rounder Sumit Kumar has been replaced by Lalit Yadav, hinting at a possible shift in strategy for the match.

Pant Opts to Bowl First

Earlier, Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first, considering the potential presence of dew later in the second innings.  Explaining his rationale, Pant said, “We would like to chase because we are playing more as a batting unit. We have more batters. Maybe there will be dew.”
