Virat Kohli, former India captain appeared for his 100th Test match for India today. Ahead of the first Test match between Indian and Sri Lanka today at Mohali, Kohli was felicitated by another Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid, current Indian cricket team coach. With Anushka Sharma by her side, Kohli received a memento and commemorative Test cap from Dravid and recalled how he always considered Test cricket as the purest format of the game.
“In present-day cricket, with the amount of cricket we play with three formats and the IPL, the only takeaway, if the next generation can take from my Test career, is that I was able to strive through and play the purest format of the game and get to 100 Test matches,” Kohli said. He added, “All my family members and coach from childhood, all are proud. It is indeed a team game and it couldn’t have been possible without you. Thanks to BCCI as well for giving me this opportunity to represent the Indian cricket team initially and from there on everything has gone from strength to strength.”
He called it a special moment with his wife and brother present at the stadium. He further continued and sounded elated to receive the memento from one of his childhood heroes. Kohli said, “I couldn’t have received it from a better person, one of my childhood heroes. I still have that picture in my house from under-15 NCA days, where I was looking at you and taking a picture with you and today, I get my 100th Test cap from you. So, indeed it’s been a great journey and one which hopefully continues to grow.”
Rohit Sharma, who started his Test cricket captain journey today won the toss and decided to bat first. Kohli, after producing some striking shots was dismissed for 45 off 76.
