The IPL 2024 has seen 23 successful matches. On April 9, Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad locked horns at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. The match was a thriller as both teams fought hard to end the game on the winning side. Sunrisers Hyderabad ended up being the winner. Nitish Kumar Reddy played an exceptional innings and was awarded Player of the Match. After that, he shared his feelings.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, Player of the Match:
After winning the toss, Punjab Kings opted to field first. After giving a decent start, Hyderabad kept losing wickets. At that crucial point, Nitish Kumar Reddy entered the field. Standing at that point, he completed a responsible half-century and played a knock of 64 runs in 37 balls with an excellent strike rate of 172.97. His innings was contained with 4 boundaries and 5 over-boundaries. That innings by Reddy boosted Hyderanad’s score to 182/9.
After that incredible contribution, he was awarded the Player of the Match award. After that, he said, “For me, it’s like a big contribution for my team and for myself. I have been telling myself that I should believe in myself. The seamers were bowling really well, I didn’t want to take on them.”
While talking about the spin attack, he said, “I knew that the spinners would come and I wanted to attack them, I just did that. The whole tournament, they are bowling slow bouncers and it’s really working. I also used the dimensions to get the wicket. I just want to continue this performance with the bat or ball or with the fielding, I just want to be like this.”
Hyderabad’s Domination:
Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad faced initial struggles as wickets fell frequently. Travis Head managed 21 runs off 15 balls, while Abhishek Sharma scored 16 runs. However, Nitish Reddy’s exceptional innings of 64 runs off just 37 deliveries, with a remarkable strike rate of 172.97, played a pivotal role in their total of 182/9.
In the second innings, SRH bowlers dominated from the start. Pat Cummins dismissed Jonny Bairstow for a duck, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed the wickets of Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan. Bhuvneshwar ended with 2 wickets for 32 runs, supported by Pat Cummins, T. Natarajan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Jaydev Unadkat, each taking 1 wicket. SRH clinched a nail-biting victory by just 2 runs.
