The IPL 2024 final fever is still strong for the Kolkata Knight Riders squad. On May 26, Kolkata Knight Riders lifted the trophy after 10 years of wait. After KKR won the trophy after 10 years of wait, KKR’s most reliable player Sunil Narine and mentor Gautam Gambhir’s happiness and celebration caught the attention.
After winning the match, the player-mentor duo lifted each other in the air and celebrated the winning moment. The moment grabbed the limelight. After the match ended, Gambhir opened up about the emotions. Gambhir said, “I have not lifted a lot of players before, and neither have players lifted me before, but there were lot of emotions after the win. I reunited with Narine and Russell after six years, and that is a long period of time, and I know them very well so the emotions came out after winning, and this is why you play cricket.”
Praising Narine’s Excellence:
The Caribbean star Sunil Narine is an old member of the franchise. He has been serving the team for long. The last season of the tournament was not great for the star player. But in this season, he made a remarkable comeback. In the IPL 2024 season, Sunil Narine showcased his exceptional cricketing skills, amassing a total of 488 runs with a staggering strike rate of 180.74. His impressive average of 34.86 reflects his consistency.
He also proved his worth as a formidable bowler, claiming a total of 17 wickets in 15 matches. With an impressive average of 21.65 and an economy rate of 6.69, he consistently posed challenges for opposing batsmen. Because of his excellence, he was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
While praising the star, he said, “Even if Narine was not given the MVP award, he would still be KKR’s MVP always. You can look at the stats and all, but Narine was KKR’s MVP even before the tournament began. There is a lot to see from Narine still, he still has the ability to give a lot more for KKR and world cricket.”
On Andre Russell:
In the IPL 2024 season, Andre Russell emerged as a key player for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), showcasing his prowess as an impactful all-rounder. With the bat, Russell delivered crucial cameos, amassing 222 runs at an impressive strike rate of 185.00. His highest score of 64 not out underscored his ability to finish games effectively. Moreover, Russell proved lethal with the ball, claiming 19 wickets in 15 matches at an impressive average of 15.53, with a best bowling performance of 3/19. His contributions were instrumental in KKR’s success throughout the season.
While praising him, the KKR mentor said, “Absolutely, Shreyas Iyer deserves praise for utilizing Russell well with the ball. There are so many teams where only one bowler has reached 17-18 wickets, but here our sixth bowling option stepped up with 19 wickets, and that too some crucial ones. West Indies will be a huge threat to other teams at the World Cup because they have everything to become a champion side.”
Further, he said, “When one is associated with a franchise for 12-13 years, there is a lot of emotion involved. The franchise must also be credited for the way they have treated players. Honestly, Russell owes nothing to KKR because of what he has already done, only a few players have done for their franchises. It is a relationship built on trust and respect.”
