As anticipation builds for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced an all-female lineup of match officials who will oversee the tournament. Set to take place in the United Arab Emirates from October 3 to 20, this prestigious event will feature ten teams competing for cricketing glory.
Experienced Umpires Take Center Stage
The panel of umpires includes some of the most experienced officials in women’s cricket. Claire Polosak, who is set to officiate in her fifth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, leads a talented group that also features Kim Cotton and Jacqueline Williams, each making their fourth appearance in the tournament. Sue Redfern returns for her fourth edition as well, while Zimbabwe’s Sarah Dambanevana will make her debut as an umpire in this high-stakes competition.
Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager – Umpires and Referees, expressed pride in this all-female lineup, stating, “The ICC is proud to be contributing to the advancement of women in our sport. This group has been selected as the most deserving umpires for this event following their recent form in bilateral and other cricket.”
Match Referees Ready for Action
The match referees’ panel includes GS Lakshmi, who has been a prominent figure in women’s cricket since refereeing her first T20I back in 2012. She oversaw the final of the last edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023. Joining her are Shandre Fritz and Michell Pereira, both of whom are officiating in their second ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Easey further noted, “We are confident that they will do a great job at this event. I wish them the best of luck as they oversee the world’s top women’s cricketers in what will be an exciting tournament for all involved.”
