ICC Announces Schedule For U19 World Cup 2024

The International Cricket Council today, i.e. December 11 announced its schedule for the U19 World Cup that is to be held in South Africa. Earlier, the venue for the marquee tournament was fixed in Sri Lanka but as ICC suspended the SLC Cricket Board due to governmental Interference, the venue shifted to South Africa. The U19 World Cup will start from January 19 and conclude on February 11. The opening match of the tournament will be played between Ireland and USA at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. The teams will also play two warm up matches as a practice before moving on to the tournament. 

16 teams to take part in the U19WC

A total of 16 teams will take on each other in the 2024 U19 World Cup with the first match between USA and Ireland. In all, 41 matches will be played which will see teams contesting against each other: India, Bangladesh, USA, West Indies, Namibia, England, Afghanistan, Namibia, Nepal, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Ireland and Australia.

India to play against Bangladesh first

Team India will play its opening match against the Bengal Tigers on January 20 at the same venue as Mangaung Oval. India will also take on Ireland and USA on January 25 and 28 respectively. Speaking about South Africa delivering successful events in the past, ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley remarked “In the past 12 months we have seen South Africa successfully deliver two milestone events for the sport – the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup last year, and the groundbreaking ICC Women’s T20 World Cup that immediately followed.”

He further added “The relocation of the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 to South Africa allows us the opportunity to build on this momentum and welcome the best young cricketers on the planet to five notable international venues.”
