ICC Postpones Meeting on Champions Trophy 2025 Venue Yet Again

The meeting to decide the venue of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has once again been put off. After a number of rounds, the ICC was not able to come to a decision. The fate of the tournament continues to hang in balance. According to reports, it is likely that the next round of discussion will take place on December 7th.

PCB-BCCI Dispute Dominate Talks

The tension between the PCB and BCCI continues to dominate the conversation. This arose after India decided not to travel to Pakistan because of security concerns, leading to demand from BCCI that the tournament should be hybrid in nature.

In response, PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi threatened to boycott the event unless given full hosting rights. According to reports, Pakistan apparently agreed to the hybrid model during last week’s meeting. However, they demanded that the same rules be applied to future ICC events hosted by India. The problem still remains unsolved, and the ICC cannot mediate a settlement.

Jay Shah Presided Over the Meeting

The newly-appointed ICC Chairman, Jay Shah, conducted the meeting at the headquarters of the ICC in Dubai. The meeting, which lasted only 20 minutes, reportedly failed to make headway on the conundrum of the Champions Trophy.

Speaking after the meeting, Shah was hopeful for the future of cricket. “This visit provided an invaluable opportunity to connect with my colleagues on the ICC Board,” he said. “We discussed the initial roadmap and strategies to shape the future of this incredible sport.”

The problems notwithstanding, Shah has vowed to take cricket to unprecedented heights during his term.
