ICC to Relocate Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Amid Bangladesh Crisis

Due to the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to relocate the T20 World Cup 2024 to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This shift is aimed at ensuring the tournament’s smooth operation and security. The decision reflects the ICC’s commitment to maintaining a safe and stable environment for the global event, with the UAE emerging as a viable alternative venue for hosting the prestigious cricket championship.

ICC to Shift Venue From Bangladesh:

Bangladesh was initially set to host the T20 World Cup 2024, but ongoing political instability has made it challenging for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to manage the event. As a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering relocating the tournament to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Earlier, Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), confirmed that India would not be stepping in to host the event. The ICC had previously announced that Bangladesh would also host the Women’s T20 World Cup from October 3-20, with warm-up matches starting on September 27.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly considering Dubai and Abu Dhabi as potential venues for the T20 World Cup 2024, given the current situation in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has requested additional time to address the concerns. The ICC is anticipated to finalize its decision by August 20, during an online meeting of the directors, although the main agenda of the meeting is different.

The report stated, “ A BCB official said on Thursday that it has requested the ICC for five more days before making a call. If the ICC grants the extra time, then it would have to decide on August 20, the day of the board meeting. It is understood that the ICC was originally expected to take the call on the Women’s World Cup by August 15.”

Further in that report stated, “ The ICC is seeking a host country with a time zone similar to that of Bangladesh and clear weather conditions, and UAE fits that criteria well. Besides, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) boasts world-class infrastructure. And more importantly, the ECB is believed to be keen on hosting the event. It is understood that Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka are also interested. With just about 50 days remaining for the start of the tournament, time is running out.”
