ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Trophy Unveiled in Spectacular Ceremony at Iconic Sharjah Stadium

The second T20 World Cup of the year is commencing soon. After witnessing the Men’s T20 World Cup in June, the cricket world is all set to witness the Women’s T20 World Cup in October. As the big tournament is set to take place in UAE, all teams are set to give intense competition to each other. On September 25, the International Cricket Council revealed the trophy. The unveiling took place at Sharjah Stadium in the presence of the officials. 

ICC Unveiled the Women’s T20 World Cup Trophy:

Another thrilling T20 World Cup is coming up to excite the cricket fans. The Women’s T20 World Cup is coming up with its 9th edition. Initially, it was scheduled to take place in Bangladesh but due to ongoing political tension within the country, it was moved to UAE. The tournament is set to raise its curtain on October 3 and the final match is scheduled to take place on October 20. 

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup trophy was unveiled at a grand ceremony held at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. The event marked a significant moment with Khalid Jasim Saif Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, serving as the chief guest.

The ceremony was attended by several distinguished figures, including Eisa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council; Waleed Bukhatir, Vice Chairman of Sharjah Cricket and Member of the Emirates Cricket Board; Khalaf Bukhatir, CEO of Sharjah Cricket; Nasir Akram, Member of Sharjah Cricket; and Mazhar Khan, General Manager of Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Midfa’s Words:

The Sharjah stadium entered the Guinness Book of World Records over a decade ago for hosting the most ODIs of any venue. Khalid Jasim Saif Al Midfa believes that the upcoming Women’s World Cup will further boost tourism in the Emirates, contributing positively to the local economy.

He said, “This is something we always promote. You can imagine how people know the city because of sports like cricket. Look at the strength of this sport. Many people know the city because of this sport. See how effective it is.”

Later he added, “We are always promoting it. We are always partners with Khalaf and Waleed Bukhatir and the sports council. We are always partners to promote and we have a common goal.”

Thanking Cricket Boards:

The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup was originally scheduled to be held in Bangladesh. However, the ongoing political tension becomes a reason for the venue shift for the marquee event. As the security became a concern, the event shifted to the UAE. Midfa extended this thanks to the cricket boards. 

He said, “I wish to thank our leaders for their unwavering support, ECB and BCB for giving us this opportunity to host the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup. We have hosted big tournaments in the past as well and we are confident that we and deliver again.”

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is all set to start from October 3. The Indian women’s team will start their campaign on October 4 against the New Zealand Women’s team. In the last edition, Team India had a heartbreak after exiting from the semifinal stage after facing a defeat against Australia. This time Harmanpreet Kaur and Co are set to lift their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup Trophy.
