“I’ll bat somewhere in the…..” Rohit Sharma Confirms KL Rahul will Open the Innings Alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in Adelaide

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has confirmed his batting position ahead of the Adelaide Pink Ball Test. Rohit has confirmed that he will bat in the middle order while KL Rahul will open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.

“KL will open. The way he batted and his partnership with Jaiswal was instrumental in that first test win. The way he has batted outside India, he deserves it. I will bat somewhere in the middle. It was a fairly simple decision. Personally, it wasn’t easy (as a batsman) but for the team, it was an easy decision to make,” Rohit said while addressing the press conference on the eve of the Second Test.

Rohit Sacrifices His Spot for the Greater Good

This decision by Rohit is critical. The 37-year-old has come in for criticism after India faced a 0-3 whitewash at home to New Zealand. During that series, Rohit made only 93 runs across six innings, averaging just 15.16 – the lowest he has mustered in a series where he batted more than two matches.

Rohit missed the first Test in Perth as his second child was born. During his absence, Rahul and Jaiswal formed a record 201-run partnership in the second innings to establish India’s incredible 295-run victory. This partnership helped cement the duo’s spot as openers for the Adelaide Test.

Rohit Addresses Ashwin and Jadeja’s Omission

Rohit also addressed the omission of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja from the first Test. Off-spinner Washington Sundar was the lone spinner in Perth, where the pace attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, dominated.

Rohit emphasized the importance of Ashwin and Jadeja in the series. “They’ve been massive for India’s success in the past. They’ll definitely play a role in the upcoming games. The management will decide based on the conditions,” he said.

He also praised Sundar’s contributions. “Washington’s an asset. He scored crucial runs and took wickets on the last Australia tour. His graph is only going up,” Rohit added.
