“ I’m not sure I’ve seen a better pace attack” Michael Atherton Praised the Indian Pacers After the Excellence against Sri Lanka

A dramatic showdown has ended last night. It was a perfect dominance from India’s side to their opponent. On November 2, India met Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium. That was an exceptional match. India dominated Sri Lanka since the beginning of the match. After the 10-wicket defeat in the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka faced a defeat of 302 runs in yesterday’s clash. That was a huge setback. India set an example of excellent bowling performance by pacers. With that massive win, India registered their seventh consecutive win in the tournament. After this sensational performance, former England captain Michael Atherton talked about the masterclass bowling of India in the ICC Review podcast.

India’s Sensational win:

Last night, India met Sri Lanka at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In this venue, India lifted the World Cup for the second time by defeating the Sri Lankan side. They met again in the 2023 World Cup at the same venue. Initially, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first. While batting first, India lost the early wicket of Rohit Sharma in the very first over. But youngster Shubman Gill and  King Kohli held the baton. Gill missed a well-deserved century just by eight runs. He got out by scoring 92 runs in 92 balls.

Virat Kohli again scored well. He played a responsible knock of 88 runs with 11 excellent boundaries. Shreyas Iyer was amazing in that game. He played an excellent inning of 82 runs in 56 balls. Ravindra Jadeja scored 35 runs. After 50 overs, India registered 357/8 on board.

Indian bowlers were exceptionally well. They didn’t get a chance to stand in front of the Indian bowling lineup. Mohammad Shami was excellent. He picked up five wickets in 18 runs. Siraj was another gem of the day. He picked up three wickets in 16 runs. Bumrah and Jadeja took one each. Sri Lanka got all out on just 55 runs. India registered a massive win of 302 runs.

Michael Atherton on Indian Bowling Brilliance:

Indian pacers were in great form against Sri Lanka. They dominated and took the match away from him. While talking about these heroic performances in the ICC Review podcast. He said, “ They’ve looked the best team by a country mile. They’ve got the best bowling attack. That’s the thing that has stood out for me. They’re a very good all-round side, obviously, but to watch them tonight against Sri Lanka here in Mumbai and then the way they bowled against England in Lucknow, those seamers are making early in-roads and then making life much easier for the spinners.”

After that, he talked about the Indian pace attack in the last match. He said, “ It’s a fantastic attack. I think the quality and depth of the Indian pace bowling is the thing that’s changed dramatically, really, since I played here.”

He further added, “ I’m not sure I’ve seen a better pace attack than the one India is putting out right now. (Javagal) Srinath and (Venkatesh) Prasad, When I played were very good, Zaheer Khan obviously. They’ve had very, very good bowlers but this three backed up by the two spinners, it’s a really top quality all-round attack right now.”
