The Pakistan men’s cricket team is looking towards a match against Ireland this evening at the Central Broward Regional Park, Fort Lauderdale, Florida followed by a flight back home, since they’re out of the run for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 tournament.
The Florida stadium has already been through 2 abandoned matches back to back, due to poor management and lacking infrastructure. It was when USA vs Ireland got canceled on Friday, 14 June that the 2009 champion, Pakistan team was declared officially out of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Imad Wasim shares the team’s Disappointment
The Pakistan team is good at bringing back “retired players” for tournaments, and they did so for the T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim had reversed his retirement ahead of the ICC tournament.
However, the 35 year old could not see the results he wanted to, in the Pakistan team’s performance in their matches. Pakistan lost their matches against USA and India, both by small margins.
Imad Wasim in a statement, cleared that the Pakistan team understands the extent to which they have disappointed themselves, as well as the entire nation. Wasim also expressed the team’s guilt.
“Me personally and our team, including me, are very disappointed and sad. And the whole public is sad that we didn’t perform well and believes we are guilty. We are more disappointed than you are. This is our profession after all.” He said.
“Should play the game the way..” Imad Wasim on the shifting landscape of cricket
Imad Wasim made it clear, that the Pakistan team was aware of the way the cricket game landscape has shifted over the years. He also accepted that the team needs to contort to and evolve with the game, just how the other country team’s are doing.
“I think we should play the game the way world cricket is going. We should sort out the way we play the game, the way we should bring awareness, the way we should chase, the way we should approach the game” Imad Wasim said
“We will sit and sort out our approach. Other teams also go out in early stages, but I don’t think Pakistan have exited this way. We are extremely disappointed.” He added.
The Pakistan team, which once won the T20 World Cup championship and brought glory to their name, is now prematurely out of the tournament.
