The India vs. England five-match Test series was a highly anticipated one. In the first two Test matches, both teams registered one win each. In the third Test match, both are trying hard to take the lead. On day 2, Ravichandran Ashwin completed his 500 Test wickets. While batting Ravindra Jadeja scored an amazing century. South African legend AB de Villiers praised both the Indian players for their excellence.
Jadeja and Ashwin’s Masterclass
In the third Test match, After winning the toss, Team India decided to bat first. While batting first, India lost three quick wickets. From there, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja pushed the team to reach a fighting total. On that crucial point, Ravindra Jadeja scored an amazing century. He played a knock of 112 runs in 225 balls with 9 boundaries and 2 over-boundaries. That boosted India’s innings.
On the second day of the third Test match, Ravichandran Ashwin reached the remarkable milestone of 500 Test wickets, becoming the second Indian bowler to achieve this feat. This outstanding record by the off-spinner is truly commendable. His journey to 500 wickets started in the second Test in Vizag, where he concluded with 499 wickets. Ashwin secured his 500th wicket by dismissing Zak Crawley on Day 2 of the third Test, making him the ninth bowler in Test history to cross the 500-wicket mark.
Notably, he is the only Indian bowler to achieve this milestone since Anil Kumble. Among spinners, Ashwin now stands alongside the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and Nathan Lyon in the prestigious list of highest wicket-takers in Test history.
AB de Villiers’ Words
After watching the masterclass by those two, AB de Villiers praised both of them. He said, “To have one front-line bowler who can score you runs under pressure is already a huge advantage in Test Cricket, BUT to have two in @ashwinravi99 and @imjadeja winning games with the ball and then scoring runs too is almost unfair. Incredible value that these two add. Eng off to a flyer here, gonna be good viewing from here on in.”
On day 2, Ben Duckett showcased his masterclass. After England lost their first wicket early, he held the innings. He scored an outstanding century. He is unbeaten on 133 runs in 118 balls. He smashed 21 boundaries and 2 over-boundaries. AB de Villiers also praised him. He said, “Ben Duckett! Wow.”
