Shreyas Iyer dropped for Bangladesh Tests

Shreyas Iyer was not included in India’s squad for the first Test against Bangladesh due to concerns over his inconsistent performances in red-ball cricket and a below-par 2024 season. Despite showing promise in the Duleep Trophy, Iyer’s recent form and fitness issues have raised doubts. Additionally, his removal from BCCI‘s central contracts and unavailability for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy have reportedly displeased the selection committee. With competition from other middle-order options like Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul, Iyer currently finds himself lower in the pecking order for Test selection.

Mulani misses out on a ton

Mulani, who was stranded on 88 overnight, looked set to complete his maiden first-class hundred but fell short. His innings was instrumental in lifting India A from a precarious position the previous day. Rana’s quick breakthroughs helped India D regain control as they took the field for their batting.

Mulani and Kotian then combined to frustrate India D’s bowlers. Kotian, who hit six fours and a six in his innings, was eventually dismissed by Saurabh Kumar. Harshit Rana struck late in the day to remove Prasidh Krishna, who is making his comeback after injury.

With some help still available for the pacers, India A will now look to make early inroads with the new ball and put pressure on India D’s batters.
