India thrashed Australia in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 warm-up match by nine wickets, thanks to a brilliant century by Harnoor Singh. Batting first Australia set a target of 269 based on 117 by the skipper Cooper Connolly. The opening duo failed and then the captain recovered the innings along with the lower middle-order batters. Aidan Cahill, Tobias Snell, William Salzmann helped to take the team total to 268 by contributing 27,35,23 respectively.
Indian bowlers were on the money from the beginning. Rajvardhan Hangargekar gave the first blow and ended up taking three wickets for 53 runs. Ravi Kumar was the star with four wickets to his name for 34 runs in 9.2 overs.
The chase saw, the Indian top-order adding valuable runs to make it hassle-free. They lost Angkrish Raghuvanshi for 27 with the team total on 74 but that was the only success for Australia bowlers on the day. Harnoor Singh completed his 100 off 108 balls and was part of a solid partnership between him and Shaik Rasheed (72). Rasheed was also retired hurt but the Indian captain Yash Dhull smashed a 50* off 47 and took the team to finish line.
In other matches, Bangladesh, England and Pakistan also recorded impressive victories. The main tournament will begin on Friday and India’s campaign will start with a match against South Africa on Saturday.
