The India women’s cricket team achieved a significant milestone by scoring over 200 runs for the first time in T20 Internationals during their Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024 match against the UAE on Sunday, July 21. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh were the standout performers, with Kaur scoring 66 runs off 47 balls and Ghosh remaining unbeaten on 64 runs off 29 balls.
Their partnership of 75 runs off 45 deliveries was instrumental in setting the record total. Contributions also came from Shafali Verma (37 off 18 balls), Smriti Mandhana (13), and Jemimah Rodrigues (14). This total is also the highest ever in the history of the Women’s Asia Cup.
India continued their dominance with a 78-run victory over the UAE in Dambulla. Batting first, India posted 201/5 in 20 overs, thanks to the fifties from Kaur and Ghosh. The Indian bowlers, led by Deepti Sharma (2/23), restricted the UAE to 123/7 in their 20 overs.
India was initially in a tricky situation at 52/3 but recovered swiftly with the aggressive batting of Harmanpreet and Richa. Richa, in particular, was explosive in the final over, hitting five consecutive boundaries off Heena Hotchandani to bring up her fifty in just 26 balls and help India cross the 200-run mark.
For the UAE, Kavisha Egodage was the most successful bowler with figures of 2/36. She also top-scored for her team with an unbeaten 40 runs, while Esha Oza contributed 38 runs.
