Rohit Sharma was spotted at the airport wearing a yellow jersey, escorted by security personnel, as he made his way to the venue. In contrast, Virat Kohli arrived directly in Chennai from London on an early-morning flight. Their arrival marks the beginning of a crucial series for India as they look to bounce back from their recent ODI series loss against Sri Lanka.
Other key players, including pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, had already reached Chennai earlier on September 12. The team is eager to put the disappointment behind them after losing to Sri Lanka last month and focus on achieving success under new coach Gautam Gambhir.
A Fresh Start Under New Leadership
This Test series will be India’s first under the guidance of Gambhir and his new support staff. The players will be looking to adopt a fresh approach against a Bangladesh team that is riding high after their recent 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan. The upcoming matches promise to be a thrilling contest, with vital World Test Championship (WTC) points at stake.
India currently leads the WTC table with 68.52 percentage points, closely followed by Australia at 62.50 percentage points. Meanwhile, Bangladesh has climbed to the fourth spot with 45.83 percentage points, thanks to their impressive performance against Pakistan, highlighted by a remarkable century from wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das.
The first Test will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 to 23, followed by the second Test in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1. With a total of 10 Test matches lined up this season, including a three-Test series against New Zealand and the five-match Border-Gavaskar series in Australia later this year, the stakes are high for the Indian team.
