Indian Swimmers Srihari Nataraj and Dhinidhi Desinghu Fall Short in Heats, Miss Semi-Finals

Day 2 of the Paris Olympics 2024 has been power-packed. Athletes across the globe are heating the big stage. Sports enthusiasts are enjoying the thrilling day of the multisport event. But the Indian swimmers had a tough day. Srihari Nataraj and Dhinidhi Desinghu did not advance past the heats in their events, marking a setback for the nation’s hopes in the competition.

The Swimmers Failed to make it:

Srihari Nataraj and Dhinidhi Desinghu did not progress past the heats in their respective events. Nataraj competed in the men’s 100m backstroke but finished 33rd with a time of 55.01 seconds. To qualify for the semi-final, swimmers needed to be in the top 16. Unfortunately, Nataraj did not make the cut.

Dhinidhi Desinghu competed in the women’s 200m freestyle and finished 23rd with a time of 2:06.96. Like Nataraj, Desinghu needed a top-16 finish to advance to the semi-final. Both athletes faced a setback as they did not achieve the required positions to move forward in the competition.

India Shined Bright On Day 2:

Haryana’s Manu Bhaker has made history as the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal in the 10m pistol event, fulfilling the dreams of 1.4 billion people. Her exceptional performance highlighted her skill and dedication.

In other sports, Nikhat Zareen advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the 50kg women’s boxing event with a 5-0 win over Germany’s Maxi Karina Kloetzer. In table tennis, Mankia Batra won her second game in the women’s event after a hard-fought match.

 Additionally, PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, started her Paris Olympics campaign with a strong victory over Maldives’ Fathimath Abdul Razzaq in the women’s singles group stage. Sindhu, ranked 13th globally and seeded 10th in the tournament, will compete against World No. 75 Kristin Kuuba from Estonia in her next group match. The match is scheduled for Wednesday.
