Paris Summer Olympics 2024: India’s Balraj Panwar is now out of medal race in Men’s Singles Sculls as he finishes 5th In quarter-finals. Panwar was the country’s only entry in the event.
On July 28, the rower earned a place in the men’s single sculls quarterfinals at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Panwar also showed a strong performance in the repechage round. He finished second in his race with a time of 7:12.41s, securing one of the top two spots needed to advance. Monaco’s Quentin Antognelli won the race with a time of 7:10.00s.
Balraj Panwar loses his shot at an Olympics medal in the quarterfinals
Despite a strong effort, Balraj Panwar did not secure a top-three finish in his quarter-final and has moved on to the semi-final C/D. He is no longer in contention for a medal and will now compete to achieve a better position in the overall standings.
A timing of 7:05.10 for the Indian rower was also his best so far. But it will only get him into the C/D semifinals where he can end between the places 13 and 24. Panwar will compete in semi-final C/D on the 31st of July at 01:24 pm IST.
Balraj stood 5th throughout the match
Indian rower Balraj Panwar kept his rank the same throughout the quarter finals round. Panwar was a part of the 4th group in the quarter finals stage. Balraj is the sole contender from India in the Olympics 2024 rowing event.
Panwar started off well, finishing 500 meters in 1:42.28 minutes. He finished the 1000 meter mark in 3:29.34 minutes, and 1500 meter mark in 5:17.22 minutes. Meanwhile, the rower finished all these time stamps at the fifth position, following the Bulgarian rower closely. Panwar could not defeat the Bulgarian and unfortunately finished at his personal best, 7:05.10 minutes.
