India’s Iconic Wankhede Stadium to Host Two Test Matches in December, First Women’s Test Since 2014!

Yet, another benchmark bailed upon Indian Cricket with India hosting two consecutive Test matches for the Women’s in December 2023. India is all set to host two Women’s Tests against England and Australia in the same month at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was in 2014 when India last hosted a Women’s Test match against South Africa in Mysore. A moment to relish on for the Women Team’s management as they will reckon on their skillful ability to hold two big Tests at the same venue in Mumbai after a gap of 9 years.

Facing the English Women

England’s Women Cricket Team will be coming for their India tour in December, having a T20 tournament and one Test match ahead. The tentative dates for the Test are from December 14 to 17 respectively. Though the dates are still awaiting a final call, it will be soon made public with the T20 set to be played on December 6, 9 and 10. Ahead of these important events to be held in India, England seamer Kate Cross remarked “The opportunity to come and play a Test match in India is bucket-list stuff for a lot of players.”

Australia to play in the next line-up

Australian women cricketers will set their foot in India only in December after the India vs England Test matches. The three-match ODI series along with the Test will be hosted at different locations across Mumbai between the Australian Women’s team and Indian Women’s team. While the Tests and the ODIs are reported to be held at Wankhede Stadium, the T20Is will commence in January at the DY Patil Stadium.

Well the Test matches along with several other formats like ODI series and T20Is being entirely hosted in Mumbai, it is quite a nostalgia for the the BCCI as they staged the entire first season of the Women’s Premier League at just two venues in Maharashtra, namely Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium.
