India Women and Pakistan Women came together for the second match at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla. Indian bowler Shreyanka Patil’s finger injury rules her out of Women’s Asia Cup 2024 after the opening match against Pakistan.

In the match, Pakistan Women won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 108 runs, losing all wickets. The India Women played well, scoring 109/3 and won the match. However, Off spinner Shreyanka Patil got injured in the match, leading to her replacement.

Shreyanka Patil ruled out of the Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024

India’s Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 due to a fractured finger, sustained during India’s opening game against Pakistan. She will be replaced by Tanuja Kanwer.

Patil fractured the fourth finger of her left hand while attempting a catch in the second game of the Asia Cup. Despite the injury, she bowled until the end of Pakistan’s innings. Patil bowled 3.2 overs, taking 2-14 as Pakistan were bowled out for 108.

Earlier in WPL 2024, Shreyanka Patil suffered a hairline fracture to the same hand, missing several RCB games before returning to take a four-fer in the final, helping RCB win against DC. She secured the Purple Cap and was voted Emerging Player of the Season.

Tanuja Kanwer replaces Shreyanka Patil

26 Year old bowler Tanuja Kanwer has joined team India after replacing Shreyanka Patil. Kanwar, born in Himachal Pradesh, gained significant attention in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She was acquired by the Giants in 2023 for INR 50 lakh.

Just a week before the auction, she impressed with a performance of 3 for 26 for Railways in the One Day Trophy final, concluding the tournament with 18 wickets, an average of 11.16, and an economy rate of 2.43 runs per over.

In the 2024 WPL season, Kanwar took 10 wickets in eight matches, averaging 20.70 with an economy rate of 7.13. She is noted for her unique variation of bowling left-arm spin from well behind the popping crease.

India’s next match at the women’s Asia Cup is on Sunday against the UAE in Dambulla.
