Due to a left ankle injury, England bowler Ollie Robinson’s participation in the next Ashes 2023 was in doubt. After a scan, it is believed that the pacer did not sustain a serious injury and will be able to participate in the forthcoming five-match Test series against Australia as well as the one-off Test against Ireland.
Notably, the 29-year-old experienced some minor ankle soreness when competing for Sussex in the current County Championship game against Glamorgan. He was in pain, and on May 21st, the sportsman was seen walking with crutches, which caused quite a stir in the cricketing community. Additionally, he was donning protection boots. Fortunately, the player will soon be hitting the straps.
The pacer will join the national team for the match against Ireland, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 1. The England and Wales Cricket Board, in the interim, confirmed the same and announced that the pacer will do so.
The Statment about Robinson’s Injury
“Scan results have revealed no damage to the ankle and that Robinson will join up with the England men’s Test squad this weekend ahead of the LV= Insurance Test match against Ireland starting on Thursday, June 1 at Lord’s,” the statement read.
On the other hand, Robinson’s stepfather and Sussex’s head coach, Paul Farbrace, claimed that the athlete only has pain when walking, not when running. He is anticipated to fully recover and participate in the Test match against Ireland, though.
Ollie will be a crucial member of the starting XI in Jofra Archer’s absence. James Anderson, a seasoned English pacer, is reportedly taking a vacation from the Ireland match in order to keep himself in shape and prepared for the Ashes. In that situation, Ollie and Stuart Broad will be in charge of England’s bowling attack against their neighbor.
Ben Stokes‘ availability is also uncertain at the moment. The all-rounder had a knee injury during IPL 2023, and he hasn’t appeared in a Chennai Super Kings game since. He is reportedly fit now, but just like Anderson, the England red-ball skipper may skip Ireland match to keep himself ready for the marquee clash.
