International Masters League Unveils Governing Council with Cricket Legends Gavaskar, Richards, Pollock

The International Masters League (IML) has officially announced the formation of its governing council, which includes cricketing icons Sunil Gavaskar, Vivian Richards, and Shaun Pollock. This initiative aims to enhance the global reach of cricket and provide a platform for retired players to engage with the sport in new ways. The council’s establishment marks a significant step in promoting cricket and fostering connections among former players and fans alike.

The Vision Behind the International Masters League

October 19, Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] (ANI): Three legends and Masters—Sunil Gavaskar, the League Commissioner, Sir Vivian Richards, and Shaun Pollock—will make up the International Masters League’s (IML) Governing Council, the league revealed. 

This trio will be in charge of the IML’s operations, regulations, and strategic direction, making sure that the league continues to be a top venue where tradition and entertainment collide and where the sport’s elites provide spectators all over the world with unmatched thrills. 

The first leg of the International Masters League’s inaugural season will take place at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium from November 17 to December 8. The other two locations will be Raipur and Lucknow, with the latter hosting the summit match as well.

Profiles of the Governing Council Members

Sunil Gavaskar, a cricket pioneer and the first batsman to reach 10,000 runs in Test matches, is renowned for his sharp cricket mind and dedication to the game’s integrity.

“As members of the Governing Council, our focus will be to ensure that the International Masters League remains true to the spirit of cricket while delivering entertainment to fans globally. The IML is not only a tribute to the masters of the game but also a celebration for fans who continue to cherish their heroes,” Gavaskar said as quoted from IML.

One of the all-time great batters, Sir Viv Richards, was a key player for the West Indies side that dominated cricket in the 1970s and 1980s. Under his leadership, the West Indies won every Test series, and he was a player ahead of his time in the limited-overs format.

“The IML is an amazing platform that will give fans the unique thrill of seeing past masters of the game back in action,” Sir Vivian Richards said in reference to his appointment to the IML’s Governing Council. I can’t wait to lead this creative league to success as a member of the Governing Council.”

A former captain of South Africa and one of the greatest all-around players in history, Shaun Pollock will contribute his expertise and adaptability to the IML Governing Council. 

“It’s fantastic to be part of the Governing Council alongside cricketing greats. The IML is a chance to enjoy the skills and class of the masters, who entertained so many fans over the years. They will also inspire a new generation. I will be playing my role to hopefully make the league an unforgettable experience for everyone,” Pollock said.
