Recently Ricky Ponting said that mankading by Ravichandran Ashwin was not within the spirit of the game. To which Brad Hogg has a counter question.
Ponting to have a chat with Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin will be seen playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. Last year he was a part of Kings XI Punjab squad. At the initial stage of the league Ashwin was seen ‘mankading’ Jos Buttler from Rajasthan Royals. While this gave birth to one of the leading controversies of IPL, the man in question always defended his action citing the rules. He was criticized for his act as a lot thought that it went against the game spirit of cricket. But Ashwin never bothered to listen to those criticism.

But this time things might get different for Ashwin. His new team coach Ricky Ponting clearly explained why he would not be encouraging this act. Now as he will be coaching the main man of the incident, former Australia captain is all set to handle Ashwin well. Ponting told on The Grade Cricketer Podcast, “I’ll be having a chat with him about [mankad], that’s the first thing I’ll do.”

Hogg counters
Recalling last year’s incident Ponting said in a recent chat that right after the episode he sat with his boys for a talk. “Obviously, he wasn’t in our squad last year, he’s one of our players that we tried to bring in this year. Look, he’s a terrific bowler, and he’s done a great job in the IPL for a long period of time now, but I must admit watching that last season, as soon as it happened and he did that, I actually sat our boys down and said ‘Look, I know he’s done it, there’ll be others around the tournament who’ll think about doing this well but that’s not going to be the way that we play our cricket. We won’t be doing that’.”

Brad Hogg, seeing the interview of Ricky Ponting posted a counter question for the legendary batsman. Hogg, who was also an influential part of Australia’s limited-overs team, took to Twitter and asked, “Batsman leaving the crease before the ball is delivered, when they know they’re getting an advantage, is that in the spirit of the game! #cricket #IPL2020”
