Shreyas Iyer said that Ashwin would need two-three games to become match-fit. Amit Mishra has been included in the squad as a replacement. Keep reading to find out the reason why Ravichandran Ashwin is not playing against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020.
Here is why Ravichandran Ashwin not playing today against CSK
All eyes were on Ravichandran Ashwin in the first IPL 2020 match of Delhi Capitals as Ashwin was facing his former franchise. Ashwin who a captain of Kings XI Punjab for the last couple of seasons was traded to DC ahead of the IPL 2020 auction. Ashwin had a sweet revenge moment when he dismissed two mainstays of KXIP batting line-up in his very first over conceding only two runs. The last ball of the over was sent to long-off by Glenn Maxwell. Ashwin dived to save the ball but fell on his left shoulder. Momentary treatment from the physio could not help him and he had to leave the ground.
On Thursday, Delhi Capitals assistant coach Mohammad Kaif said, “Ashwin is going for practice today and we haven’t taken a call yet if he is going to be available or not for tomorrow’s game. We will see how the practice goes. We are monitoring him very closely.”
Kaif hints at a possible reason
Kaif also added, “For the last seven or 10 days there has been a change here in the weather. In the evening around 6-7pm, there is a lot of dew at the ground. At the Dubai stadium, the dew was not that much. At the ICC Academy ground, where we practice, there’s more dew as it’s an open area. Ground fielding is getting difficult. When the ball gets wet and heavy, it’s tough for the players. We have to see that the players don’t get injured due to hard training. Fielding is something that takes time to get settled in after a break.”
After today’s toss Shreyas Iyer, the Capitals captain revealed that Ashwin would not be a feature for the ongoing match against Chennai Super Kings. He said, “Ashwin, I feel is doing pretty well, but we wanted to give him a 2-3 game rest so that he feels better.” Amit Mishra replaced Ashwin for today’s game.
